This medal was chosen as the 114th issue of the prestigious Society of Medalists series in 1986.
The obverse bears textured globe with chain of four putto-like but wingless children dancing around equator.
The reverse bears space with huge moon in upper left and tiny earth at lower right; space is spangled with four-pointed stars. At lower left, signed ASH
Alex Shagin delivered a poem to describe the intent of his medal:

The medal measures 73mm in diameter and was produced by the Medallic Art Company. It is reported to have struck 750 pieces in bronze.
