The reverse bears a view of the new hospital under star of David. In exergue, BETH ISRAEL HOSPITAL / NEWARK · NEW JERSEY / · FEBRUARY · 1928 ·
When Beth Israel was founded in 1901 it was located in a former residence on High Street. The hospital grew and prospered along with the Jewish community that supported it. Eventually a grand new building was raised on Lyons Avenue in the Weequahic section. This move confirmed that the Weequahic section had become the center of Jewish community life in Newark. The medal pictured along with this blog was made to mark the opening of the new hospital building.
This is a very beautiful and somewhat rare Swanson medal in Art Nouveau style. At least one large galvano is known to exist. The hebrew letters on the obverse spell an excerpt from the book of Exodus 15:25: "for I am the Lord that heals you."
The circular medal measures 75mm in diameter and was struck in bronze by the Medallic Art Company of New York. The mintage is not reported.
The obverse bears masked and gowned surgeon pulling a suture with surgical tool. Over shoulder along edge, CINE CLINIC.
The reverse bears dedication between laurels: Presented By / DAVIS & GECK / DIVISION OF / AMERICAN CYANAMID COMPANY / FOR PARTICIPATION IN / THE CINE CLINIC PROGRAM OF / THE AMERICAN COLLEGE / OF SURGEONS.
The medal is edge-marked MEDALLIC ART CO.N.Y. BRONZE.
This medal is another example of Belskie's beautiful medallic rendition of the medical profession. The surgeon is rendered in loving detail and very high relief.
The medal measures 75.9mm (3in) and was struck in bronze by the Medallic Art Company of New York.

Hancock designed a beautiful medal where the partially shrouded female figure, representing nature, is slowly lifting her veil, seemingly in response to questing man.
The Parke-Davis Award was established by the American Society for Experimental Pathology, as it was then known, to honor research contributions by members under 40 years of age (changed to 43 in 1992). It was sponsored by the Parke-Davis Company of Detroit, now a subsidiary of Pfizer.
The medal measures 73mm in diameter and was struck in bronze. No mintage is reported.

Belskie designed this medal for Johnson & Johnson. Every year since 1960 a group of J&J's outstanding scientists from around the world are awarded the Johnson Medal, the firm's highest scientific honor. These scientists have made discoveries that led to new products in every area of J&J's businesses. In the words of Johnson and Johnson's website: "They have taken us in new directions and helped us improve the health and well being of people the world over."
The obverse bears a figure of an ancient female in flight, holding torch with snake. Around, COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS & SURGEONS / COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY; in lower left, ABRAM / BELSKIE / Sc. The reverse bears the portal to Presbyterian Hall; around, TWO HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY / 1767 (crown) 1967.
Belskie designed this medal for the 200 year anniversary celebration of Columbia University's medical school.
The medal measures 76mm (3in) in diameter and was struck in bronze by the Medallic Art Company of New York.
The obverse is trisected into three images. A man at whiteboard with molecule, along edge, EDUCATION; surgeon and nurse in OR, along edge, PRACTICE; a female scientist at microscope, along edge, RESEARCH.
The reverse bears two branches, (mayo logo with three shields) between them at base; The / Mayo / Legacy between them at tips; engraved to Joan Mondschein.
